What about paying for expensive HIV medications?

Financial Assistance to pay for medications can come from two sources: ADAP and Medicaid.

ADAP -- The State of Florida AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) -- is funded by Ryan White CARE Act Title II federal legislation. Patients with no other source of payment may enroll in ADAP and pick up their medications monthly at the clinic. A co-pay for ADAP is based on the sliding fee scale, and there is a cap restricting the amount that you will be charged annually. The ADAP program requires documentation of income. If you are enrolling or re-enrolling in ADAP, you will be required to prove your eligibility. Persons who are eligible for Medicaid are not eligible to receive medications from ADAP. Regular state audits will assure that everyone is in compliance with ADAP requirements.

Remember to bring proof of income when you are due for your ADAP are-enrollment and financial screening every six months. Acceptable documents are pay stubs for one month or income tax return, Social Security award letter, and documentation of any other source of income. If you are living with someone whose income is mutually shared, then we must have documentation of the income of both members of the household. If your total income is less than 350% of the federal poverty level, you will be eligible to receive medications from ADAP. Currently that equals $2400 per month for one person; $3280 per month for households of two persons. If you are unemployed with no income, there must be verifying documentation such as: (1) Social Security or Department of Labor verification; (2) statement of support from someone who is helping you with basic necessities; or (3) a signed statement from someone who is familiar with your financial status.
